Abstract

297,676. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Sept. 24, 1927, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Cellulose ethers, processes for making filaments and films from.-For the coagulation of the cellulose ether films, bands, threads, &c. there is used a hydrocarbon which is readily mixible with the solvent or solvent mixture of the cellulose ether solution but which does not dissolve the cellulose ether. As the solvent there mav be used carbon disulphide or mixtures rich in carbon disulphide, or ethyl ether alone or mixed with other solvents. Suitable hydrocarbons are paraffin oil, petroleum jelly, and other high boiling point fractions of petroleum; petrol, shale oil, and hydrocarbon fractions of Bergination oil. The products are subjected to mechanical treatment to remove the adhering hydrocarbon, the last residues being dissolved by washing or being allowed to evaporate. In examples, paraffin oil is employed as the coagulant, and the cellulose ether is dissolved in a mixture of carbon disulphide and ethyl ether, butanol or benzene or in a mixture of ethyl ether and benzine. Films, &c. so made, are repellant to water.
