Ornamenting. - A marble substitute is produced by applying a g1azing-composition to a smoothly-ground plate of material, such as fo1iated asbestos or glass, at a temperature of about -2‹ C., drying the composition, and polishing the surface. The composition may consist of about 2 parts by weight of sodium sulphate, 5 parts of ca1cium chloride, 10 parts of deep black co1ouring-matter, 2 parts of red colouring-matter, 16 parts of water-glass, and 28 parts of water with some sal ammoniac.
