Abstract
292,149. Clarke, A. June 15, 1927, [Convention date]. Air-heating stoves; outlets to chimneys.-A stove adapted to supply hot air for heating purposes and designed to burn gas comprises a combustion chamber 14 with an air preheating chamber 7 below it and a hot air delivery chamber 13 above it, and includes an outlet baffle chamber 35 which may have means for extracting further heat from the hot gases. Air enters the chamber 7 from below and serves partly for combustion at the gas burner 18 and in part passes through heating pipes 30 to the chamber 13. Further air entering an open ended passage 26 within the chamber 14 is heated in pipes 29 exposed to the hottest part of the heating-chamber, the gases after passing these pipes being directed by a baffle 31 along the whole length of the pipes 30. The rear of the chamber 14 is spaced from the rear wall 24 of the casing to provide an air passage 45 delivering along the top and forwardly into the chamber 13. The waste gases leaving the stove enter a retarding casing 35 beneath a perforated plate 40 therein and rise upwardly between a number of vertical partitions to issue past a top baffle 42. A modified retarding casing may be built into the stove, affording additional airheating surfaces, and having the object of reducing the waste gases to a temperature at which they can safely be exhausted into the apartment to be heated.
