Abstract

291,866. Capps, A. W. F. March 9, 1927. Extracting sugar.-A preliminary treatment of freshly cut beet cossettes before drying them for subsequent extraction consists in one of the following processes-passing the cossettes through a hot sugar solution usually containing a low grade sugar, or, spraying the cossettes with steam or gas containing water vapour. The wash liquid in both cases is separately purified in known manner. The cossettes may be given a preparatory heating before entering the drying apparatus. According to the Provisional Specification cold water can be used.
