Discontinuously loaded cables. - In order to make a junction box containing Pupin coils flexible for passing over the stern drum of a cablelaying vessel, the coils are individually enclosed in two-part rubber cups a, b which may be reinforced with helical wires c. Discs f of metal. or of insulating material, such as rubber, which may be strengthened with solid or perforated metal discs g, are fitted between the cups. The conductors d are preferably carried helically round the rubber cups, the discs being then provided with helical guide grooves. In a modified construction the conductors may pass along the axis of the junction-box, openings being formed for them in the lid and bottom of each cup and in the disc. In the embodiment, the disc f is formed of rubber and has a copper insertion g which is recessed or formed with openings h to reduce weight. Passages e in the cups are formed for the coil leads.
