Controllers, liquid ; controllers, actuating.-In a liquid rheostat of the kind in which the level of the electrolyte is regulated by means of a circulating pump and overflow weirs a regulating valve operated by the device to be controlled by the current in the rheostat is interposed in the circuit of the pump. The invention is described in connection with a motor-driven pump for a boiler feed. The electrodes a are enclosed in narrow chambers d in a tank b. Cooling liquid is circulated through the spaces h between the chambers d. A pump p draws electrolyte from a reservoir m beneath the tank b and passes it through a valve s contralled by the discharge of the feed-pump to the chambers d, whence it overflows over adjustable weirs r to the reservoir m. The electrodes are so shaped that the resistance is a function of the liquid level suitable to the characteristics of the motor and pump and the desired regulation.
