Abstract

290,712. Wood, W. R. Feb. 14, 1927, Water-tube boilers.-In a boiler having water tubes forming the walls of the combustion chamber, and upper and lower drums 4, 5 at the rear of the chamber, the water circulates in all the walls in a direction away from the lower drum and towards the upper drum, and the downcomer return is from the upper drum to the lower drum onlv. The tubes 7 of the side walls open into upper and lower headers 12, 13, connected to the upper and lower drums. The tubes 8 of the front wall are connected to a number of upper and lower headers 15, 16, which are connected to the upper and lower drums by tubes 10, 11 forming the roof and floor of the combuschamber. The front row of the bank of tubes 6 connecting the upper and lower drum is backed by a baffle 25, over the top of which the gases pass downwardly along the tubes 6 and through a superheater 28 and an air heater 19. The heated air is led to the burners through ducts 23 arranged as described in Specification 273,990. The back row of tubes of the bank 6 is protected from the direct heat of the gases by a wall 29.
