Abstract
290,018. Webb, V. W. April 6, 1927. Blocking. - A metal mould 2 of standard size is fitted with a removable mould 4 of plastic wood, wood pulp, or other plastic material. The latter may fit inside or outside the metal mould, its surface next this mould fitting the mould, and its other surface shaped to the desired configuration of the hat to be blocked. When the plastic material is outside, both moulds are perforated and the apparatus is used with suction in the known manner. When the plastic material is inside, the apparatus is used in the usual hydraulic bag type of machine. In a modification, the mould 2 may be removed before blocking, after the plastic material has been shaped over it. In this case, the exterior surface of the mould 4 may be electroplated to strengthen it. In use, the apparatus shown is positioned over a suction chamber 11, the hat 12 being covered by impervious material 13. The moulds may be sectional.
