Abstract

289,354. Botson, R., and Soc. Industrielle des Applications Chimiques Soc. Anon. Nov. 14, 1927. Sodium sulphide.-Pure sodium sulphide is prepared by liquifying the crude product by means of steam under pressure, adding, say 1 per cent of terpinolene to precipitate impurities, diluting with water to give a solution of 13‹ BÚ., filtering, as in centrifugal apparatus, adding caustic soda of 35‹ BÚ. until the specific gravity is 18.5 BÚ., again filtering, concentrating to obtain a 50 per cent solution, and crystallizing. The pure product is free of iron, copper, and hyposulphite, and may be used for preparing toning-solutions for use in photographic processes. The dried crystals may be pressed into blocks or be amalgamated with a suitable paste.
