Abstract
289,228. Marks, E. C. R., (Dunn Manufacturing Co.). March 18, 1927. Mountings; pipes.-Apparatus or mounting the tubing of a pump in a well and for preventing it from falling in case of breakage comprises a number of serrated grips D slidable on inclined surfaces E carried by the junction piece F connecting two lengths A, B of tubing. The grips have lugs 20 slidable in guides 24 and adapted to rest on a sleeve G loosely surrounding the tubing and supported, by springs 17 engaging the well casing C. The grips are suspended by fingers 10 from a sleeve 12 loosely surrounding the tubing and supported by springs 13 engaging the well casing. The sleeve 12 has slots 26 engaging extensions 25 of the member F, permitting relative longitudinal movement between the sleeve and tubing, but preventing relative turning movement. The sleeve G has slots 18 engaging extensions 19 en the member F, permitting relative longitudinal movement between the tubing and sleeve G and also a certain amount of relative turning movement. When the apparatus has been lowered to the position it is to occupy, the tubing is drawn up slightly to raise the legs 20 of the grips out of the slots 18, it is then turned to cause the legs to rest on the top of the sleeve G, and finally allowed to descend. During the last movement the sleeve G and grips are held stationary by the springs 17 and the inclined surfaces E force the grips D outwards into contact with the casing C. Should a breakage occur when the grips are not in contact with the casing C, the grips are re tained by the springs 13 and the inclined surfaces E, during their descent, force the grips outwards into contact with the casing, thereby arresting the fall of the tubing. In the form shown in Fig. 2<a>, the legs 17<a> of the grips 17 normally depend within slots 19 in a collar 21 loosely surrounding the tubing and connected by friction springs 23 with another loose collar 22. The collar 21 is within a centering collar 24<a> rigidly attached to the junction piece between two lengths of tubing. The junction piece is connected by fingers 29 to a sleeve E carrying friction springs 33 and supporting the grips 17 by means of fingers 17<b>. The tension of the springs 33 is. varied by a compression spring 34 arranged between two collars inside the sleeve E.
