288,934. Nette, J. van, Nette, V. V. van, and Nette, A. B. van. Dec. 2, 1927. Lawn-mowers.- Relates to lawn-mowers of the kind wherein a main frame carries ground wheels and a handle bar and a secondary frame carries the mowing means and is fulcrummed on the main frame eccentrically of the ground wheels, and consists in means for adjusting the main frame relatively to the handle bar for varying the distance of the mowing means from the ground. The handle bar 16 terminates in a bail 15 the ends of which are pivoted to lugs 7 on the side members 5 of the main frame. The two side members are rigidly connected by a tie bar 11, and each engages one of the ground wheels by a hall bearing 21, the outer race of which is carried by the ground wheel and the inner race comprised by faces on the frame and a set screw 19, respectively. The secondary frame also comprises a pair of side members 25, rigidly connected by a tie rod 33, each pivoted at 30 to the corresponding member 5, carrying ball bearings for the shaft 45 of the usual rotary cutter 55, a ledger blade 40 and ground roller 37. The pivots 30 are pins also serving as bearings for a double gear wheel 62 driven by teeth 2 on the ground wheel and driving teeth 60 on a spur wheel connected to the shaft 45 by a one-way clutch. For adjusting the cut, a pull rod 74 is secured to the tie-rod 11, and is provided with teeth 75 co-operating with teeth 76 secured to the handle bar, a finger piece 78 and spring yoke 79 being provided to allow ready adjustment, if desired, while mowing is proceeding. A pendant member 90 contacts with the ground when the handle is dropped. When it is desired to wheel the mower from place to place, the mowing means may be elevated by engaging a hook 85 over the tie bar 11. The handle 16 may be swung to the front of the machine when it is desired to drag the machine along in making a cut. In a modification, the teeth 75, 76 and yoke 79 are replaced by a pin adapted to engage one of a number of holes.
