Abstract

286,831. Yates, H. J., Howlett & Co., Ltd., M., and Dolphin, J. Jan. 6, 1927. Strainers, applications of.-An automatic valve such as a thermostat has a casing 1 formed with upstanding walls 20. 21, so as to form an inlet chamber 2 communicating with a tangentially arranged inlet 13 and an annular outlet chamber 22 communicating with a similarly arranged outlet, the controlling valve 4 being arranged to seat on the top of the inner wall. The inner chamber is provided with a frustro-conical strainer 14 preferably of sheet metal with a number of narrow axial slits 14a arranged with its larger diameter uppermost in contact with the inner wall and its lower end engaging a boss 15. The valve member, which is loaded by a spring 3, has a depending guide 6 engaging the boss 15 and provided with an adjustable abutment for engaging the operative member of the thermostat. The abutment is screwed into the guide and has a flattened part 8 engaged by a slot on an adjusting spindle 10 operated by a cap 11 provided with indicating markings. A throttling screw may be arranged in the inlet.
