Abstract
286,730. Schieferwerke Ausdauer Akt.-Ges. March 10, 1927, [Convention date]. Hexamethylenetetramine is prepared by running formalin slowly into a solution of ammonium chloride, which is supersaturated with sodium bicarbonate, or into a, solution of sodium chloride and ammonium bicarbonate. In examples, (1) commercial formalin is poured at short intervals or gaseous formaldehyde introduced into an aqueous solution of ammonium chloride and sodium bicarbonate: ammonium bicarbonate and sodium chloride may also be used. The resulting solution is evaporated and the hexamethylenetetramine is extracted with alcohol. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the bicarbonate may be replaced by neutral carbonate and that the mixture composed of sodium chloride, ammonium chloride, and hexamethylenetetramine can be used in the artificial resin industry and contains an example in which gaseous formaldehyde is slowly introduced into a liquor resulting from Solway's ammonia-soda process, containing ammonium bicarbonate and sodium chloride. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
