Abstract
286,427. English Electric Co., Ltd., and Schroeder; G. Feb. 3, 1927. Insulation; armatures, cooling. - In a slotwound electrical machine or apparatus, the slot insulation is in the form of two or more tubular layers each surrounding the whole of the conductors and so arranged, with or without the use of grooved distance-pieces, as to enclose a space between the layers through which a cooling liquid or gas flows longitudinally. In the form, shown in Fig. 1, the insulating tubes 2, 3 around the conductors 1 are separated by angular distancepieces 6 defining four axial channels 7 for the cooling medium. The pieces 6 may extend throughout the slot or be in short lengths with intervening regions wherein the passages 7 extend around the inner tube 2. In Fig. 2, of which Fig. 3 is a section on the line III-III, a form is shown with the tubes 2, 3 in contact at the top and hottom of the slot and separated at the sides only by means of distance pads 8 grooved at 9 for passage of the cooling medium. The grooves are preferably oblique, as shown, to prevent any conductor from being displaced towards the interior of a groove. The slot insulation extends beyond the core and is provided with openings to the inter-tubular spaces for the inlet and egress of the cooling medium. The invention is specially applicable to oil-insulated high-voltage induction regulators.
