Metal pipes and tubes.-Discs of noble metal carrying a number of capillary apertures are made by the following method. A cylinder of platinum, &c. is bored with a number of holes parallel to the axis of the cylinder; the holes are filled with cores of base metal, and the composite body is drawn down to a diameter such that rods cut from the drawn material will just fit the holes of a second cylinder of platinum bored similarly to the first; the composite body is again drawn, and the process may be repeated; discs are cut from the final products, and the base metal cores suitably dissolved.
