Cutting slices in succession.-In a disc knife reciprocating table machine of the type in which the table is reciprocated manually and the knife is independently operated, means are provided, in connection with the table, which store up energy during the slicing-stroke and supply energy to the table during the return stroke. As shown in Fig. 1, the knife c is rotated by a motor a through gearing b, d, the gear-wheel d being on the back of the knife. The table e runs on rollers f and is guided bv a block n working in a slot m in the base h. A spring p is secured at o to the base, and at the other end to a pin q on an oscillating lever r pivoted to the base at s, and to a connecting rod t pivoted to the underside of the table e. The spring is stretched during the slicing stroke, and assists or effects the return stroke.
