Cells.-A splash-preventing device consists of a rigid plate e carrying a flexible flange k which is splayed outwards by the shape of the edge of the plate. As shown in Fig 1 the flange k consists of a rubber ring having a bead which engages in a groove in the plate e. The outer edge of the bead abuts against the cell walls and serves to cushion the electrodes. The bead may be omitted from the ring which may be secured in place by projections on the plate e engaging in openings in the ring. A plain rubber ring may also be employed surrounding a splayed seating on the plate as shown in Fig. 2. The plate e may be dished to enable it to retain dirt &c. falling into the cell. Fig. 8 shows a modification in which the ring k is fitted to a splayed seating m on the cover a of the cell.
