Washing-machines with enclosed rotary receptacles and with pumps; supplying liquids to washing- machines.-The goods are placed in a perforated receptacle 2 rotated in alternately reversed directions in a casing 1 by friction pulleys 4 driven from a motor shaft 16. The motor also drives a pump 18 for withdrawing liquid from a settling tank 20 and raising it through pipe 25 to a series of pipes 27, Fig. 4, arranged in arcuate form between the casing and receptacle and formed with spraying nozzles, the washing liquid not being allowed to accumulate in the bottom of the casing, but being constantly discharged therefrom to the tank 20 through a pipe 23. Hot air or superheated steam may subsequently be circulated by these means. The goods are fed into the receptacle by means of a bucket 30 moved along the internal lifters 28, the bucket being emptied and withdrawn after a half revolution of the receptacle. The receptacle is emptied in a similar manner. The ends of the casing are normally left open, but may be closed by a plug and packing. The ends of the receptacle also may be left open or may be closed by doors comprising discs 3, Fig. 5, held in posi. tion by locking bolts 37 spring-biassed to engage with a circular groove 39 in the receptacle. The bolts are withdrawn by a screw-actuated wedge 48 slidably mounted in a sleeve carried bv a bracket pivoted to the casing at 41. To open the door 3 the bracket is raised as shown and the sleeve is rotated to screw into the tapped hub of the disc 3, after which the wedge 48 is actuated to withdraw the bolts, the door being removed bodily by being swung with the bracket on the pivot 41. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) referred also to the tank 20 being formed with several compartments containing different liquids. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
