Abstract

285,335. Mackley, E. N. Sept. 13, 1927. Casings; wear, preventing and adjusting for.-The part of a pump casing c in which the discharge guide passage a is formed is detachably fitted with side plates d or rings which provide wearing surfaces adjacent the tips of the impeller blades. The casing is of cast iron and the plates d may be of the same material and have hardened wearing surfaces d', d<2>, d<3>. The plates are secured by bolts e over packing rings n the number of which can be varied to allow for wear. The boss h of the impeller rests in the boss d<4> of one of the side plates which may be fitted with a lining. If desired, separate wearing pieces may be detachably secured to the plates d. The suction end cover k and the support q may be provided with internal rings to maintain the plates d in position and the bolts e will not then be required. Liquid under pressure is supplied through the channel p to the annular chamber r to prevent grit from entering the bearing.
