Abstract

284,973. Siemen, O., and Hinsch, J. Dec. 10, 1927. Centrifugal Sprengel pumps; starting, facilitating. -A pump of the vaned rotor and liquid annulus type used for extracting air from siphonic conduits or the suction pipes of pumping plants is fitted with a stop cock in the inlet or outlet which is automaticallyclosed when liquid enters the pump. As shown the cock b is connected to a piston d in a cylinder c with a pipe connection to the pump casing and is moved by the liquid pressure against the action of a weight g and spring f. When the cock is fitted to the suction side of the pump the plug is formed with a small duct which is open when the normal aperture is closed so that leakage air may be pumped without substantial discharge of liquid.
