Abstract

284,941. Luyckx, C. Aug. 2, 1927. Addition to 275,557. Regulating. - The timing of the rotary valve l claimed in the parent Specification is varied by angular adjustment of the central core i, which is formed with diametrical exhaust passages k and similar inlet passages (not shown). The valve itself may also be adjusted angularly. By moving the cores backwardly, as shown in Fig. 2, the time of commencement of inlet and exhaust remains the same, but the time of closing is advanced. Adjustment of the core in the opposite direction delays the opening without altering the closing. In order to prevent the opening of exhaust from being advanced in front of the upper dead-centre when the admission is advanced, the exhaust passage k in the core is bevelled off at k<1>. The core is formed at one end with a collar i<1>, Fig. 4, having slots adjustably held by bolts y, the adjustment being effected by gearing u, v and a connection 26 to hand or governor control. Worm gearing may replace the gearing u. v. Valves.-The valve l, rotating between a central core i and the casing, may be formed with collars engaging circular grooves in the casing to prevent leakage.
