Abstract

284,709. Dufils, R. Feb. 4, 1927, [Convention date]. Moving-map indicators for vehicles.-A moving- map indicator for use on vehicles is wound from a drum 21 on to a drum 22 and is fed by a roller 15 driven through reduction gearing from a pinion 4 rotated at a speed proportional to that of the vehicle by a flexible shaft. The map is gripped between the roller 15 and the smoother surface of the glass 16 of the containing box 17, the roller 15 being mounted in a hinged bracket 18 pressed towards the glass by a spring 20, the pressure of which may be varied by a screw 20k. A lamp is mounted in an adjustable reflector 45. A belt 23, which slips when the resistance is excessive, connects pulleys on the spindles of the feed roller 15 and the winding drum 22. The drums 21, 22 may be moved by hand by heads 25 on their spindles 26, the mechanical drive being first automatically disengaged. For this purpose, cones 80 are provided on the spindles 26 so that when the latter are displaced longitudinally the cones engage holes 31 in a member 32 which thereupon slides and by means of its forked end 32b disengages a. dog-toothed gear sleeve 36 from the pinion 6 in mesh with the pinion 4. A further movement of the spindles 26 engages polygonal members 27 in recesses 29 in the drum ends, so that the drums may now be rotated by the heads 25. In a modification, the spindles 26 carry collars which move the bar 32 transversely to its length against spring pressure, keys being provided to hold the spindles in position for handturning. Errors in the feed of the map due, for example, to tyre wear, may be corrected by including in the reduction gearing a friction drive comprising two discs 47, 48 at right angles to one another, the disc 48 being adjustable radially across the face of the disc 47 by screwing a spindle 37 further into its support 50, the spindle 37 carrying a stirrup 51 fastened to the disc 48.
