Abstract

284,517. Sumpter, F. S. May 23, 1927. Tiling. - Tiled surrounds or mantels for fireplaces are provided at each vertical outer edge, and at the top and each side edge of the opening, with a single thin sheet-metal plate b, of a width approximating to the projection of the surround and having a flange b' at the front engaging the margins of the tiles. Lugs or projections b<2>, to which wires c may be attached, secure the plates to the backing material x. The wires c may be doubled back to project from the rear of the backing and then looped to serve as means for securing the mantel to the wall. The plates b may be enamelled and grooved to simulate edge tiles.
