282,111. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Dec. 13, 1926, [Convention date]. Samples furnished. Arylaminonaphthalene derivatives are obtained by heating in an open vessel or in an autoclave and in presence of a bisulphite solution either (1) a monoamino- or monooxy-naphthalene containing no sulphonic or carboxylic group, or (2) naphthalene derivative containing more than one amino group or more than one oxy group, or both an amino and an oxy group, but containing ro sulphonic or carboxylic group (other than 1 : 8- diamino-, 1: 8.dioxy-, or 1 :8-aminooxy-naphthalene derivatives, with an aminobenzene derivative containing a further free or substituted amino group or a free or substituted oxy group. The reaction between dioxynaphthalenes and aminobenzene derivatives containing a substituted amino group in p position to the 'amino group is excluded. Specified naphthalene derivatives are a- and #-naphthol, a- and #-naphthylamine, 2 : 7- and 1 : 5-dioxynapthalene, and specified aminobenzene derivatives are o-, m-, and p-phenylenediamine, o-, m-, and p-aminophenol, leucoindophenols, leucoindamines, and sulphonic carboxylic, or other substitution products thereof, 4 : 4<1>-aminooxy-diphenylamine and 4 : 4<1>-diaminodiphenylamine-2-sulphonic acid. In all cases reagents containing amino groups may be replaced by the corresponding nitro compounds with the addition of formic acid as reducing agent. The products are applicable for producing dyeings, fast to water on pelts, animal fibres in general, and acetate silk by after-treatment with oxidizing agents. Specification 18726/00 is referred to.
