Abstract
281,603. Item, J. van. Nov. 30, 1926, [Convention date]. Lifting-dogs.-Relates to lifting - tongs for handling stacks B of building blocks with or without pallets. A number of stacks Bare superposed in piles A in the form shown in Fig. 3 with the lowest layer i of each unit closepacked and the top layer offset to leave space j for the tongs. The tongs, Fig. 1, comprise bell-crank levers c, d pivoted in a frame D supported by the rod e and drum f so that the tongs are opened by paying out rope from a second drum b to lower the block E which supports the levers. A stop-block a on the frame D limits the gripping movement of the arms c against the pallet g, but when the stack is being lifted without a pallet, the block a is removed or turned aside.
