Abstract

281,431. Pugh, J. V., and Rudge- Whitworth, Ltd. Oct. 6, 1926. Rigid-jaw wrenches; jaw faces. - A spanner for flat ended nuts has an aperture with an encircling wall presenting a. projecting face to each side of the nut, the faces at their centre fitting easily over the sides of the nut and sloping therefrom towards the intervening corners. The spanner aperture for the hexagon nut shown has six inwardly projecting faces each formed by surfaces a, a<1>, the other corners b being rounded. This construction enables the same spanner to be used on nuts of different sizes within limits and permits rotation of the spanner through an appreciable angle from engaging the flats in one direction of rotation to engaging the flats in the other direction so that inertia of the spanner may be made use of for final tightening or initial loosening of the nut. The inwardly projecting faces may be rounded.
