Abstract

280,985. Pourbaix, J. F. V. July 16, 1926. Tobacco pipes.-In a pipe fitted with a removable inner bowl 4 having a curved bottom with holes 6, 7 for the passage of smoke, absorbent filtering material 9 is supported in contact with the bottom of the inner bowl. As shown, the filtering material 9 is fitted in a downward extension 8 of the inner bowl, which may be screwed to engage the upper end of the outer bowl 1, or may be retained bv a cork ring 5. The stem portion 2 is provided with a smoke bore 10, a well 11, an absorbent wad 13, and an aluminium sleeve 14 engaged by the inner end of the mouthpiece 3. The outer bowl 1 and stem 2 may be of briar wood and the inner bowl 4 of meerschaum, clay, heat-resisting glass, or wood. Ir. a modification, the bore 10 and well 11 open into a chamber in the inner end of the mouthpiece, and an absorbent cartridge longer than the well 11 is placed in the well, the wad 13 being omitted. The Provisional Specification states also that the bowl and the bowl portion of the stem may be of indurite or of the substance known under the registered Trade Mark " Bakelite."
