279,973. Asquith (1920), Ltd., W., and Feather, G. Aug. 27, 1926. Machine framings.-The movable tables and saddles of machines such as planing, milling, grinding, drilling and tapping machines and lathes are supported on roller chains travelling on prepared surfaces on the machine bed, one or more of the chains being used for traversing as well as for supporting the table. The table A is slidable on a saddle B slidable on the machine bed C, the saddle and bed being provided with run-ways b<4> for the reception of endless roller chains whose return parts pass through holes b<5> in the saddle. The chain which is used for traversing passes over a sprocket wheel b<1> carried by a spindle rotated by a hand-wheel b<3>. The table is supported by chains A', the traversing chain passing over guide rollers a<1>, a tension roller a<2> and a, sprocket wheel a<3> actuated by a hand-wheel a<5>. The table and saddle are guided laterally by surfaces b<6> or by chains or rollers and may be clamped in any position by a clamp D. The run-ways b<4> &c. for the chains may be composed of hardened and ground steel strips let into the machine parts, and the chains may be other than endless.
