Abstract

279,239. Androvic, E. E., and Smith, H. G. H. Grant-., Oct. 12, 1926. Spray burners; flame deflectors and protectors. -In an oil burning apparatus a steam generator 10 containing wire gauge 11 and heated by the burner flame supplies steam to a nozzle 7<a> so as to induce a flow of oil from a nozzle 6 arranged at right angles. The issuing oil is atomized by the steam jet and may be ignited by a flame or electric spark. Fig. 1 shows one form of the apparatus in which a vertically adjustable pivoted baffle 14 directs the flame on to a U- shaped steam generator 10 and a three-way cock 12 in the water supply pipe 11<a> allows the water in the steam generator to be drained off when turned to the closed position. The oil supply to the jet is regulated by a needle valve 7. A burner cup 171, may be provided for preheating the steam generator and the apparatus may be surrounded by a hood 13. Fig. 3 shows another form in which the annular steam generator 10 communicates by a pipe 19 with a container 18 containing water and compressed air. A needle valve 22 in a pipe 21 communicating with the pipe 19 allows air to be passed through an aperture 21a in the pipe 21 to the nozzle 7<a> for atomizing the oil to provide a burner flame for initially heating the steam generator. Fig. 5 shows an oil stove in which the container 18 is divide bv a partition 24, the upper part forming an oil reservoir communicating with the jet 6 and the lower part, a water reservoir communicating with the annular steam generator 10.
