Abstract
279,020. Koks-und Halbkoks-Brikettierungs-Ges. Oct. 14, 1926, [Convention date]. Materials for making coke.-In the preparation of semi-coke briquettes, bituminous fine coal is briquetted with a binder which is either inorganic or comprises one or more water soluble organic substances with which a portion of the coal may be emulsified or is a mixture of the two kinds and the briquettes are submitted to a roasting and then a distillation temperature. In an example 95 kg. of coal graded from 7 mm. to O and containing 30-32 per cent of volatiles were mixed with 5 kg. of a binder consisting of 3 kg. of sulphite waste liquor and 2 kg. of clay. The briquettes were dried at about 150‹ C. for an hour and distilled at about 450-500‹ C. for about 2 hours. A portion of the coal dust may be emulsified with spent liquor to form the binder and size or water glass may be used instead of the liquor. A shaft or like furnace replaces the usual rotary tube furnace.
