Abstract

Upward-current classifiers; inclined-trough washing-apparatus.-In apparatus for recovering gold and other metals by washing, the material to be treated resting on a screen 8 in a chamber 7 is subjected to the action of an upward stream of water which is regulated by a hand-controlled valve 18 and is broken up by screens 9 which may be of successively finer mesh from bottom to top. The water may be supplied by a pipe 3 or from a tank 2, valves 19, 20 being provided so that either supply can be used. The material which overflows at a weir 14 passes along an inclined trough 13 wherein it is stirred by agitators 24 on an endless belt 23, the axles of the rollers 25 of which are removably supported in opentopped slots 36. Transverse riffles 16 are provided in the trough 13. The lower part of the belt 23 may be depressed by hand by means of a jockey-putley 28 supported from a wheeled frame 32 riding on the sides of the trough 13.
