Abstract
277,692. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. Sept. 18, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Caps; bulbs.- Caps are attached to bulbs of incandescent and other lamps by supporting either the cap or the bulb upon a stationary holder and the other member upon a support which is movable in the field of observation of one or more optical testing devices, so that the filament can be given a definite location with respect to the cap, the cap and the bulb being finally united by means of cement. The cap 21 may be inserted in a socket in a stationary disc 2 which is connected by rods to a disc 4 having a spherical seating on a ball 5 provided with a, cylindrical shank adapted to be adjusted vertically in a socket 6 and secured by a clamp 9. The bulb is seated on a ring 25 which is pressed up by a spring 21 to clamp the bulb in an aperturein the end of a cvlinder 24. This is mounted so as to be adjustable vertically by means of a. threaded sleeve 16 along another sleeve 11 forming with the member 5 a ball-and-slot joint, which enables the cylinder 24 to be moved laterally to adjust the bulb. Other adjustments are made by rotating and pivoting the bulb on its seating 25. The cement used in the cap may be confined to the interior thereof, or may be continued in cylindrical form to meet the bulb as shown at 40, Fig. 2. The exposed surface of the cement, with the whole or a part of the surface of the bulb, may be coated with metal, e.g. copper or nickel by electroplating, to protect the parts and to form a reflector. When the cement does not protrude from the cap, its exposed surface may be protected by turning in the lower end of the metal of the cap.
