Abstract
277,013. Triggs, W. W., (Norton Co.). Sept. 1, 1927. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 5, 1927]. Wheels.-An abrasive wheel is constructed of segments 10 united by a filler, for example, Babbitt metal, poured whilst hot into the spaces between the segments. A reinforcing structure also may be employed, formed from the metal and having rings 17, 18 on each side of the wheel united to the transverse filling 19. The segments may have lateral projections 12 against which the rings 17, 18 abut closely, the outer rings being bevelled and forming shoes adapted to be engaged by corresponding faces on clamping- plates 30, 33, which secure the wheel on a shaft 25. The plate 30 abuts against a collar 26 on the shaft and the plates are held in position by a nut 35, a bushing 27 being interposed between the abrasive ring and the shaft. Steel &c. wires may be embedded in the rings 17, 18, and the. projections 12 may have indentations to hold the rings. The metal fillers 19 may extend only to the rings 18, the spaces outwardly of the rings being filled with a mixture of graphite and sulphur; the filler between operative portions of the segments is such as to wear away at substantially the same rate as the segments.
