Abstract

276,705. Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., Lakeman, A., and Macabe, F. C. April 29,1926. Indiarubber, attaching to metal articles.-The metal surfaces of gutters, iron work, coach bodies, &c. are covered and protected from damp &c. by vulcanizing thereto a rubber composition containing about 75 per cent of tyre scrap. The composition preferably comprises 28 parts used pneumatic tyres ground to crumb, 29 parts uncured rubber cord scrap, 28 parts ground solid tyre scrap, 10 parts sulphur, 2 parts mineral oil, 2 parts brown substitute, 1 part stearic acid. The metal surface is first cleaned and then covered with a vulcanizing solution comprising 10 parts 3rd quality crepe, 2 parts resin, 10 parts litharge, 10 parts lime, 24 parts whiting, 34 parts sulphur, 10 parts magnesium carbonate. The covering is then applied and the whole vulcanized under pressure. Sheeting having an uneven or corrugated surface is preferably vulcanized in an elastic mould, consisting of two sheets of rubber dough or other pliable non vulcanizing material.
