Rotary tipplers.-A side-tipping tippler is loaded so as to turn under the action of gravity when restraining means is released, the apparatus being restored to its normal position by power against the action of gravity after the wagon has been discharged. As shown the tippler 1 is loaded by a weight 3, and is held and restored by a rope 5 and winch 6, 7. The movements of the tippler are limited by stops 8<a>, 8b engaging the supporting rollers 2. A lateral support 9 for the wagon is carried by arms 10 pivoted on the tippler at 10a and normally held clear of the wagon by ropes 12 wound on a hand-winch 14. When the wagon has entered the tippler the ropes 12 are payed out and the support 9 moves against the wagon by gravity, spring or equivalent means. On rotation of the tippler, holding bars 11 to which the ropes 12 are connected become locked automatically against toothed blocks 16 on the tippler. For holding the wagon against the rails, levers 18 pivoted on the tippler at 18<a> carry a sustaining bar 17 or they may be shortened to bear directly on the side wall of the wagon. The levers 18 are normally held in the raised position by bars 19 which rest at their lower ends in brackets 21. During the first movement of the tippler, the rods 19 turn about the edges 21a of the brackets and the levers 18 descend till arrested by the wagon. Catches 22 on the end rings of the tippler then engage teeth 19a and lock the rods 19 and the levers 18 or sustaining beam 17. When the tippler is righted, the bars 19 engage the brackets 21 and lift the levers 18.
