Abstract
274,490. Honsch, G. July 16, 1926, [Convention date]. Adhesives.-Cold glue powders, which, when mixed with cold water, form glue solutions are obtained by mixing powdered animal glue with powdered colloid-liquefying materials, of a neutral or weakly acidic nature and dressing, drying, or cement-like solidifying materials. Suitable liquefying materials comprise most of the organic and inorganic chlorides, certain nitrates, sulphonic acids and their salts, solid inorganic and certain organic acids and their salts such as boric, oxalic, salicylic, and phthalic acids, other than the alkali salts of salicylic acid and benzene and naphthalene sulphonic acids. In examples (1) Powdered glue is mixed with 20 per cent of oxalic acid and 10 per cent of quartz powder. (2) 70 parts of powdered glue are mixed with 20 parts by weight of calcium nitrate and 10 parts of magnesium carbonate or uncalcined magnesite. These powders form viscous glue solutions with twice their weight of cold water. Cooking salt or zinc ammonium chloride may replace the liquefying agents referred to in the examples and magnesium carbonate may be replaced by alum, aluminium sulphate, aldehydes or their addition or condensation products, or siccatives such as manganese borate. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the inclusion of drying, dressing &c. agents as optional, and does not exclude the use of alkali salts of salicylic, benzene sulphonic and naphthalene sulphonic acids. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
