Abstract

Actuating by liquid pressure; relief devices; assembling; double-acting piston pumps; pipes; valves, arrangement of.- In a double-acting pump the suction and delivery pipes 15, 16, 18, 19 are arranged in alignment and laterally of the pump barrel. The pipes may be of thin metal and their ends may be punched into recesses in the valve boxes and the pump body. The piston 4 is actuated by plungers 8 operated by pressure liquid admitted alternately to cylinders 9, 10. The ends of the plungers have recesses 34 provided with radial ports 35 which enter the pump barrel at the end of the stroke and thus relieve excessive pressure in the cylinders 9, 10. In another form, the plungers 8 are replaced by pistons working in sleeves in the cylinders 9, 10, and excessive pressure is relieved through ports in the sleeve which are overrun by the pistons at the ends of their strokes.
