Abstract
273,741. K³chenmeister, H. J. July 2, 1936, [Convention date]. Pianofortes, double; actions, bridges, cases, soundboards, arrangement of strings; harps.-In stringed instruments such as pianofortes wherein each key actuates two hammers, a time interval of 1/6th to 1/30th of a second is arranged between the two impacts so as to produce "stereo-acoustic " effects. In Fig. 2, the single key c causes the two hammers b, b<1> to strike the strings a successively. In Fig. 4, two lengths a, a<1> of a single string, which is passed over a pivoted bridge h' to enable the portions to be tuned by means of one tuning-key, sound a single note, being struck successively by the hammers b, b<1>. The hammers may be arranged between the strings and the soundboard e. Two soundboards may be employed. Pedal devices may be provided to vary the time-interval, or to throw one set of hammers. out of action. The bottom as well as the cover of a grand piano case may be opened to control the sound, and an upright piano may be similarly modified. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the invention is also applicable to harps. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
