Abstract
272,499. Wingfield, B. R. June 11, 1926, [Convention date]. Switches, quick-action; retractive switches; actuating locking.-The switch lever 1 and operating lever 2 are pivoted at 4 and interconnected by springs 7, 7<a>. The lever 2 carries a pin 8 engaging a slot in an actuating rod 9 and a pin 11 for tripping a spring-controlled latch 14 serving to hold the switch lever 1 in the closed position shown. The rod 9 is moved gradually by devices such as thermostats, pressure bellows or diaphragms and the like, and when it rises it engages the pin 8 to move the lever 2 so that the spring passes the dead-centre, whereupon the latch 14 is released by the pin 11 and the springs 7, 7a quickly open the circuit. A similar movement takes (place in the reverse direction, there being no tripping, however, but in the change-over switch in Fig. 2, the lever 2 carries two strikers, each acting on a latch to release the switch. A return spring 24 returns the switch when the operating device exerts power in only one direction, such as a thermostat.
