Abstract

271,710. Okuura, W. Oct. 7, 1926. Feeding webs.-In a paper-reeling machine provided with winding-reels 1, Fig. 1, mounted on a rotatable frame 4 so as to be brought successively into the working or winding position, each of the reels is directly coupled to an induction motor 6, the rotor of which is electrically connected to the stator of a braking or balancing motor when the reel comes into the working position, thereby regulating the winding speed and the tension of the web. The reels 1 consists of perforated hollow cylinders on shafts 2 mounted on the frame 4, which also supports the motors 6, and the ends of the reels opposite to the motors are adapted to be connected to an air suction pipe when brought into the winding position, so that the free end of the web severed from the preceding reel is caused to adhere to the reel to start a fresh roll, the severing of the web being effected automatically in known manner. The shaft 3 carrying the frame 4 is geared to an intermittently running motor 12, which is automatically switched on in known manner when a wound roll reaches a predetermined size, thereby rotating the frame to bring the next reel into position. Since the vacuum is required only when a new reel begins to rotate, the motor 12 may also be used to drive the vacuum pump 20. A series of stationary rings 14 concentric with the shaft 3 connect the stators of the reel motors 6 to the current supply and connect their rotors to the stators of the balancing or braking motors 13a, 13b, the arrangement being such that the motor 13<a> is connected to the rotors of the motors A-A<2>, Fig. 3, by a set of three slip rings c, and the motor 13b is connected to the rotors of motors B-B<2> by slip rings b. Slip rings a connect the stators of all the reel motors to the three-phase supply i. Five-sixths of the periphery of each slip ring has an insulating coating, the uncovered portions of the surfaces of all the rings being disposed in the same axial. direction to make contact with brushes on the connecting leads of a reel motor when it is in the winding position W. The motors 13<a>, 13b are loaded by friction brakes 10 and blowers 9, the load of which can be varied according to the winding speed desired.
