Abstract
271,003. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. May 19, 1926, [Convention date]. Resistance furnaces.- Heating-resistances for an annealing furnace are mounted on blocks of refractory material such as steatite which form covers for slots in the roof, end &c. of the furnace through which the resistances can be withdrawn for repair &c. In the arrangement shown, the resistance element consists of a ribbon h wound on projections g on blocks k of refractory material suspended by rods i from a block e supported on ledges on the roof d and side wall b of the furnace. The lower block k may be loose on the rod i so as to keep the ribbon tight by its weight. Adjacent turns of the ribbon may be separated by projections n on the blocks k. The edges of the blocks k may engage with grooves in the furnace wall. In a modification, the heating element may consist of wire wound in tubes of insulating material or it may be carried in a metal frame. Arrangements of resistances in the roof or floor of a furnace are also described.
