Abstract

269,931. Carlstedt, S. M. April 23, 1926, [Convention date]. Vacuum cleaners. -The nozzles of vacuum cleaners are formed with two suction passages 2, 3 of different areas, and the suction pipe 12 is movably connected to the nozzle so that it may be brought into communication with either of the passages 2, 3. The suction pipe is attached to a member 9 sliding between lateral guides 8 to bring its aperture 10 into register with either of the passages 2, 3. Springs 14 with ends secured to the slide and to the nozzle body respectively, hold the opening 10 normally in register with the larger passage 2. Pressure exerted on the suction pipe closes passage 2 and opens passage 3 to suction, this passage giving a higher velocity suitable for collecting thread ends &c. In a modification, the slide has a circular motion about the nozzle portion, the passages in which are disposed side by side. Alternatively, connection may be made by a hollow rotary two-way valve. In all cases springs and stops are provided.
