Density separators; discharging.-The drum of a centrifugal separator has conduits for the discharge of the separated solids, and mechanical means are provided for causing a continuous flow of the solid particles from the drum. The bowl is formed of two truncated conical portions 7, 8, and contains conical plates 13 to which the mixture is fed through the hollow shaft 2. The outer part of the bowl is constructed as shown in Fig. 2, to include a number of pyramidal spaces 18 for the collection of the separated solids. Each space 18 contains a tube 19 provided with a metal rod 22 carrying a scraping apparatus, such as a spiral 23, or pins, and being rotated through bevel gearing 26, 25 from a sleeve 30 on the central shaft 2. A brake band 34 operated by the hand wheel 37 controls the motion of the sleeve and of the scrapers 23. The mixture is passed through the hollow shaft 2 into the separator and the purified liquid is discharged through the passages 15. The solids pass into the apex of each pyramidal space and are forced by the scrapers 23 through the tubes 19 into the collectors 39 and thence to the discharge tube 40. The passage of the solids through each tube 19 can be regulated by varying the position of the obstructing block 27 on the rod 22. The scraping devices may be driven from the shaft 2 by any suitable arrangement of gearing or may be driven from an independent motor.
