Tabulating-mechanism. - A tabulating-stop, movable to different positions by means of keys, is associated with auxiliary returning-means which is operative only when the tabulating-stop is moved to the extreme position. The Figure shows a tabulating stop-lever M which normally co-operates with margin stops on a rod H and can be rocked by the margin-release key into the position shown, or can be rocked by the tabulating-key into position for co-operating with column stops L. In addition to the usual returning-spring V for the stop-lever, there is now provided an auxiliary returning-spring 4 connected to a lever 3 having a lug 5 in the path of the stop-lever. The lever 3 is pivoted on a bracket 1 and has a lug G or a stop-screw abutting thereon. The spring 4 is tensioned only when the stop-lever is moved into position for engaging the column stops, tension being imparted at the end of the stroke of the tabulating-key. On release of the tabulating-key the spring 4 ensures quick disengagement of the stop-lever from the column stop.
