Connecting uppers to insoles and soles; goloshes; uppers.-A process for the manufactura of rubber footwear is characterized by forming the boot or shoe, or part thereof, by coating a former with a pre-vulcanized aqueous rubber dispersion as described in Specifications 193,451, 208,235 and 266,418, [all in Class 70, India-rubber &c.], and dewatering the applied dispersion, thus producing in situ upon the former, the boot, shoe, or part thereof of pre-vulcanized sheet rubber. The former may be a last or a suitably supported non-rigid former of fabric, and the rubber dispersion may be applied in any convenient manner as by spraying, with the addition of a protective colloid or other anti-coagulant such as alkali, if a tendency under pressure of the spray is shown towards coagulation. The coating of the former may alternatively be effected by dipping or spreading. A preferred method of dipping is to introduce the toe first and remove in the reverse direction, smoothly following the are of a circle. The operations may be mechanically performed successively at suitable intervals of time. The former is advantageously agitated to displace possible air bubbles. The dewatering may be effected in any convenient manner at normal temperature or by heat. The boot &c. may be strengthened in any particular part by interposed fabric.
