Abstract
A wearable drum harness comprising shoulder straps 110/120, a torso straps 130/140, a waist-encircling or belt strap 150 and an interconnecting strap 160. The shoulder, torso and interconnecting strap being themselves interconnected at a front point “FP”, shoulder and torso straps interconnected at a rear point, and interconnecting and waist-encircling portions connected separately. A drum connector is disposed upon a component of the harness, to which a drum can be suspended from. The shoulder and torso straps may comprise a separate front and back end, and interconnecting strap, which may be vertically disposed, a top and bottom end. The front and top ends of each element may be securely interconnected, and rear elements may be interconnected. The bottom end of the interconnecting strap may connect to the waist-encircling portion. All strap potions may be adjustable in length 114/124/134/144. The straps may be connected via rings or D-rings.
Description
DRUM HARNESS
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to drum harnesses and more particularly to drum harnesses for use in supporting a tenor drum during playing of the tenor drum.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] There are various types of prior art strap-type drum harnesses in use throughout the world. However, most known prior art strap-type drum harnesses are uncomfortable during use, especially during long periods of use. Further, many known prior art strap-type drum harnesses do a poor job of accommodating various sizes of drummers in terms of fit and in terms of vertical placement of the drum during playing. Also, most known prior art strap-type drum harnesses do a poor job of stabilizing a drum during marching and/or walking.
[0003] It is an object of the present invention to provide a strap-type drum harness that is comfortable during use, especially during long periods of use.
[0004] It is an object of the present invention to provide a strap-type drum harness that do a good job of accommodating various sizes of drummers in terms of fit and in terms of vertical placement of the drum during playing.
[0005] It is an object of the present invention to provide a strap-type drum harness that do a good job of stabilizing a drum during marching and/or walking.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0006] In accordance with one aspect of the present invention there is disclosed a novel strap-type drum harness for wearing to support a drum during playing of the drum. The strap-type drum harness comprises a left shoulder strap portion, a right shoulder strap portion, a left torso strap portion, a right torso strap portion end, a waist-encircling strap portion, and an interconnecting strap portion. The left shoulder strap portion, the right shoulder strap portion, the left torso strap portion, and the right torso strap portion, and the interconnecting strap portion are securely interconnected to each other at a front connection point. The left shoulder strap portion, the right shoulder strap portion, the left torso strap portion, and the right torso strap portion, are securely interconnected to each other at a rear connection point. The interconnecting strap portion and the waist-encircling strap portion are securely connected to each other. A drum connector is secured to one of the components of the drum harness. In use, the left shoulder strap portion is disposed over the left shoulder of a wearer, the right shoulder strap portion is disposed over the right shoulder of a wearer, the left torso strap portion is disposed around the left side of the torso of a wearer, the right torso strap portion is disposed over the right shoulder of a wearer, the waist-encircling strap portion encircles the waist area of the wearer, and the interconnecting strap portion is disposed at the front of a wearer. Also, in use, a drum is suspended from the drum connector and the strap type drum harness keeps the drum comfortably in place.
[0007] In accordance with another aspect of the present invention there is disclosed a novel strap-type drum harness for wearing to support a drum during playing of the drum. The strap-type drum harness comprises an upper strap arrangement, a waist-encircling strap portion, and an interconnecting strap portion extending between a top end and a bottom end. The top end of the interconnecting strap portion is securely connected to the upper strap arrangement, the bottom end of the interconnecting strap portion is securely connected to the waist-encircling strap portion. A drum connector is secured to one of the components of the drum harness. In use, the upper strap arrangement is supported by the shoulders of a wearer and generally surrounds a portion of the torso of the wearer, the waist-encircling strap portion encircles the waist area of the wearer, and the interconnecting strap portion is disposed at the front of a wearer. Also, in use, a drum is suspended from the drum connector and the strap type drum harness keeps the drum comfortably in place.
[0008] In accordance with another aspect of the present invention there is disclosed a novel strap-type drum harness for wearing to support a drum during playing of the drum. The strap-type drum harness comprises a left shoulder strap portion extending between a front end and a back end, a right shoulder strap portion extending between a front end and a back end, a left torso strap portion extending between a front end and a back end, a right torso strap portion extending between a front end and a back end, and a waist-encircling strap portion extending between first end and a second end. A drum connector is secured to one of the components of the drum harness. In use, the left shoulder strap portion is disposed over the left shoulder of a wearer, the right shoulder strap portion is disposed over the right shoulder of a wearer, the left torso strap portion is disposed around the left side of the torso of a wearer, the right torso strap portion is disposed over the right shoulder of a wearer, and the waist-encircling strap portion encircles the waist area of the wearer. Also, in use, the first end and the second end of the waist-encircling strap portion are securely interconnected to the front ends of the left shoulder strap portion, the right shoulder strap portion, the left torso strap portion, and the right torso strap portion, to form a loop for fitment around the waist of a wearer, Also, in use, a drum is suspended from the drum connector and the strap type drum harness keeps the drum comfortably in place.
[0009] In accordance with another aspect of the present invention there is disclosed a novel strap-type drum harness for wearing to support a drum during playing of the drum. The strap-type drum harness comprises a first annular strap section that forms a first loop and a second annual strap section that forms a second loop. The first annular strap section and the second annular strap section are interconnected each with the other at a front criss-cross point and are interconnected each with the other at a rear criss-cross point. A waist-encircling strap portion interconnected to the first annular strap section and the second annual strap section at the front criss-cross point. A drum connector is secured to one of the components of the drum harness. In use, the first annular strap section is disposed around the left shoulder and the right side of the torso of a wearer, the second annular strap section is disposed around the right shoulder and the left side of the torso of a wearer, and the waist-encircling strap portion encircles the waist area of the wearer. Also, in use, a drum is suspended from the drum connector and the strap type drum harness keeps the drum comfortably in place.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE ILLUSTRATED EMBODIMENT
[00022] Reference will now be made to Figures 1 through 7, which illustrate a first embodiment of the strap-type drum harness according to the present invention, as indicated by the general reference numeral 100. The strap-type drum harness 100 is for wearing by a drummer 102 to support a drum during playing of the drum 104.
[00023] In brief, the strap-type drum harness 100 comprises a left shoulder strap portion 110, a right shoulder strap portion 120, a left torso strap portion 130, a right torso strap portion 140, a waist-encircling strap portion 150, an interconnecting strap portion 160, an upper-front strap connector 170a, a lower-front strap connector 170b, a rear strap connector 180, and a drum connector 190.

More specifically, the back end of each of the left shoulder strap portion 110, the right shoulder strap portion 120, the left torso strap portion 130, and the right torso strap portion 140, are securely interconnected to each other at the rear connection point. Even more specifically, the back end of each of the left shoulder strap portion 110, the right shoulder strap portion 120, the left torso strap portion 130, and the right torso strap portion 140, are each securely connected at the rear connection point to the rear strap connector 180. In the illustrated embodiment, the rear strap connector 180 comprises a main body 181 and four outwardly extending looped end portions 182a, 182b, 182c, 182d. Further, the rear strap connector 180 comprises at least two strap pieces 183,184 sewn together. As illustrated, the back end of the left shoulder strap portion 110, the back end of the right shoulder strap portion 120, the back end of the left torso strap portion 130, and the back end of the right torso strap portion 140 are connected to the rear strap connector 180 each via a three-bar slide 185a, 185b, 185c, 185d.
[00028] More specifically, the back end 112 of the left shoulder strap portion 110 comprises a closed loop 113 that loops around the outer bar of the three-bar slide 185a. The back end 122 of the right shoulder strap portion 120 comprises a closed loop 123 that loops around the outer bar of the three-bar slide 185b. The back end 132 of the left torso strap portion 130 comprises a closed loop 133 that loops around the outer bar of the three-bar slide 185c. Even more specifically, the bottom end of the interconnecting strap portion 160 is securely connected to the lower-front strap connector 170b and the first end and the second end of the waist-encircling strap portion 150 are connected to the lower-front strap connector 170b. In the illustrated embodiment, the lower-front strap connector 170b comprises a "D" ring, but any other suitable type of connector could be used.
[00030] The interconnecting strap portion 160 comprises an upper strap portion 163a and a lower strap portion 163b interconnected by a clasp-type connector 164, specifically a medical gait belt clasp. The lower strap portion 163b interconnects the medical gait belt clasp and the lower-front strap connector 170b. The bottom end 168b of the lower strap portion 163b of the interconnecting strap portion 160 comprises a closed loop 165 at the bottom end 168b thereof. The closed loop 165 is disposed around a top portion of the lower-front strap connector 170b. To form the closed loop 165, the bottom end portion of the interconnecting strap portion 160 is looped around and sewn to itself. The lower strap portion 163b of the interconnecting strap portion 160 also loops through the medical gait belt clasp 164 and exits the medical gait belt clasp 164 downwardly to a free end 166. The medical gait belt clasp 164 can tighten onto the lower strap portion 163b anywhere along its length. In this manner, the overall length of the interconnecting strap portion 160 can be selectively varied, and accordingly, the interconnecting strap portion 160 is adjustable in length.
[00031] For the sake of aesthetics and convenience, the free end of the lower strap portion 163b has a strap-capturing band 167 secured to it. In use, the free end 166 of the lower strap portion 163b may be rolled up so as to be out of the way and the strap-capturing band 167 may be used to surround the rolled-up portion and keep it in place.
[00032] The upper strap portion 163a of the interconnecting strap portion 160 has a top end 168a and a bottom end 168b, and is folded over at each of the top end 168a and bottom end 168b and sewn in the central area of the upper strap portion 163a to form a top loop 169a and a bottom loop 169b. This interconnection as described above allows the interconnecting strap portion 160 to be adjustable in length, and accordingly allows the drum to be supported at a selected height by the wearer 102.

In the illustrated embodiment, the drum connector 190 is removably secured to the waist-encircling strap portion 150 by a suitable drum attachment hook 191 or the like. The drum attachment hook may be any suitable type of hook, and has a swivelable back end that is engaged through a loop 192 of material sewn to the waist-encircling strap portion 150.

As illustrated, the left shoulder strap portion 110 is adjustable in length by means of a three-bar slide 114, the right shoulder strap portion 120 is adjustable in length by means of a three-bar slide 124, the left torso strap portion 130 is adjustable in length by means of a three-bar slide 134, and the right torso strap portion 140 is adjustable in length by means of a three-bar slide 144. [00036] The left torso strap portion 130 comprises a front strap portion 135a and a rear strap portion 135b that can be releasably connected to each other by a buckle mechanism 136, which is shown to be a conventional type buckle mechanism. The rear strap portion 135b is longer in length than the front strap portion 135a. Accordingly, the buckle mechanism 136 is at the front area of the wearer 102 for the sake of convenience. Similarly, right torso strap portion 140 comprises a front strap portion 145a and a rear strap portion 145b that can be releasably connected to each other by a buckle mechanism 146, which is shown to be a conventional type buckle mechanism. The rear strap portion 145b is longer in length than the front strap portion 145a. Accordingly, the buckle mechanism 146 is at the front area of the wearer 102 for the sake of convenience.
[00037] The waist-encircling strap portion 150 comprises a left strap portion 155a and a right strap portion 155b that can be releasably connected to each other by a buckle mechanism 156, which is shown to be a conventional type buckle mechanism. As illustrated, the left strap portion 155a is longer in length that the right strap portion 155b. Accordingly, the buckle mechanism is at the front area of the wearer 102 for the sake of convenience. The position of the left strap portion 155a is slidably adjustable to a selected securing position, as is well known in the art. Accordingly, the waist-encircling strap portion 150 is adjustable in length.

The various above-named straps may be adjusted in length to properly fit a wearer 102. The drum is suspended from the drum connector 190 and the strap type drum harness 100 keeps the drum 104 comfortably in place.
[00039] In another aspect of the present invention, strap-type drum harness 100 comprises an upper strap arrangement 106, a waist-encircling strap portion 150, and an interconnecting strap portion 160 extending between a top end 161 and a bottom end 162. The top end 161 of the connecting strap 160 is securely connected to the upper strap arrangement 106, the bottom end of the interconnecting strap portion 160 is securely connected to the waist-encircling strap portion 150. A drum connector 190 is secured to one of the components of the drum harness 100. In use, the upper strap arrangement 106 is supported by the shoulders of a wearer 102 and generally surrounds a portion of the torso of the wearer 102, the waist-encircling strap portion 150 encircles the waist area of the wearer 102, and the generally vertically disposed interconnecting strap portion 160 is disposed at the front of a wearer 102. Also, in use, a drum is suspended from the drum connector 190 and the strap type drum harness 100 keeps the drum 104 comfortably in place.

[00041] In another aspect of the present invention, the strap-type drum harness 100 comprises a first annular strap section 108a that forms a first loop and a second annual strap section 108b that forms a second loop. In use, the first annular strap section 108a is disposed around the left shoulder and the right side of the torso of a wearer 102, the second annular strap section 108b is disposed around the right shoulder and the left side of the torso of a wearer 102, and the waist-encircling strap portion 150 encircles the waist area of the wearer 102. Also, in use, a drum 104 is suspended from the drum connector 190 and the strap type drum harness 100 keeps the drum 104 comfortably in place.
[00042] Reference will now be made to Figures 8 through 11, which illustrate a second embodiment of the strap-type drum harness according to the present invention, as indicated by the general reference numeral 200. The strap-type drum harness 200 is for wearing by a drummer to support a drum during playing of the drum, as can readily be seen in the description of the first embodiment.
[00043] In brief, the strap-type drum harness 200 comprises a left shoulder strap portion 210, a right shoulder strap portion 220, a left torso strap portion 230, a right torso strap portion 240, a waist-encircling strap portion 250, an interconnecting strap portion 260, an upper-front strap connector 270a, a lower-front strap connector 270b, a rear cross guide 280, a first rigid connector member 291, a second rigid connector member 292, and a drum connector 290.
[00044] The rear cross guide 280 comprises a first end loop 281 securely help by stitching 281a, a second end loop 282 securely help by stitching 282a, and is interconnected by a central portion 284. The right torso strap portion 240 extends through the first rigid connector member 291 (a three-bar slide) and the second rigid connector member 292 (a three-bar slide), to form a space 298 between the rear cross guide 280 and the section of the right torso strap portion 240 that is between the first rigid connector member 291 and the second rigid connector member 292. The left shoulder strap portion 210 and the right torso strap portion 240 comprise a first single strap 201 and the right shoulder strap portion 220 and the left torso strap portion 230 comprise a second single strap 202. The first single strap 201 extends through the space 298 between the rear cross guide 280 and the section of the right torso strap portion 240 that is between the first rigid connector member 291 and the second rigid connector member 292. This particular configuration helps allow for adjustment of the strap-type drum harness 200 in order to achieve a comfortable fit for various sizes of individuals.

Claims (20)
- CLAIMS: 1. A strap-type drum harness for wearing to support a drum during playing of the drum, the strap-type drum harness comprising: a left shoulder strap portion; a right shoulder strap portion; a left torso strap portion; a right torso strap portion end; a waist-encircling strap portion; an interconnecting strap portion; wherein the left shoulder strap portion, the right shoulder strap portion, the left torso strap portion, and the right torso strap portion, and the interconnecting strap portion are securely interconnected to each other at a front connection point; wherein the left shoulder strap portion, the right shoulder strap portion, the left torso strap portion, and the right torso strap portion, are securely interconnected to each other at a rear connection point; wherein the interconnecting strap portion and the waist-encircling strap portion are securely connected to each other; a drum connector secured to one of the components of the drum harness; wherein, in use, the left shoulder strap portion is disposed over the left shoulder of a wearer, the right shoulder strap portion is disposed over the right shoulder of a wearer, the left torso strap portion is disposed around the left side of the torso of a wearer, the right torso strap portion is disposed over the right shoulder of a wearer, the waist-encircling strap portion encircles the waist area of the wearer, and the interconnecting strap portion is disposed at the front of a wearer; and, wherein, in use, a drum is suspended from the drum connector and the strap type drum harness keeps the drum comfortably in place.
- 2. A strap-type drum harness according to claim 1, wherein the left shoulder strap portion extends between a front end and a back end, the right shoulder strap portion extends between a front end and a back end, the left torso strap portion extends between a front end and a back end, the right torso strap portion extends between a front end and a back end, and the interconnecting strap portion extends between a top end and a bottom end.
- 3. A strap-type drum harness according to claim 2, wherein the front end of each of the left shoulder strap portion, the right shoulder strap portion, the left torso strap portion, and the right torso strap portion, and the top end of the interconnecting strap portion are securely interconnected to each other.
- 4. A strap-type drum harness according to claim 3, wherein the back end of each of the left shoulder strap portion, the right shoulder strap portion, the left torso strap portion, and the right torso strap portion, are securely interconnected to each other.
- A strap-type drum harness according to claim 1, wherein the interconnecting strap portion extends between a top end and a bottom end, and wherein the bottom end of the interconnecting strap portion and the waist-encircling strap portion are securely connected to each other.
- 6. A strap-type drum harness according to claim 1, wherein the left shoulder strap portion, the right shoulder strap portion, the left torso strap portion, and the right torso strap portion, are each adjustable in length.
- A strap-type drum harness according to claim 1, wherein the waist-encircling strap portion is adjustable in length.
- A strap-type drum harness according to claim 1, wherein the interconnecting strap portion is adjustable in length.
- A strap-type drum harness according to claim 1, wherein the interconnecting strap portion is generally vertically disposed.
- 10. A strap-type drum harness according to claim 1, further comprising an upper-front strap connector, and wherein the front end of each of the left shoulder strap portion, the right shoulder strap portion, the left torso strap portion, and the right torso strap portion, and the top end of the interconnecting strap portion are each securely connected to the upper-front strap connector.
- 11. A strap-type drum harness according to claim 10, wherein the upper-front strap connector comprises a ring.
- 12. A strap-type drum harness according to claim 11, wherein the ring comprises a "D" ring.
- 13. A strap-type drum harness according to claim 5, wherein the waist-encircling strap portion extends between a first end and a second end.
- 14. A strap-type drum harness according to claim 13, further comprising a lower-front strap connector, and wherein the first end and the second end of the waist-encircling strap portion and the bottom end of the interconnecting strap portion are each connected to the lower-front strap connector.
- 15. A strap-type drum harness according to claim 14, wherein the lower-front strap connector comprises a ring.
- 16. A strap-type drum harness according to claim 1, further comprising a rear strap connector, and wherein the back end of each of the left shoulder strap portion, the right shoulder strap portion, the left torso strap portion, and the right torso strap portion, and the top end of the interconnecting strap portion are each securely connected to the rear strap connector.
- 17. A strap-type drum harness according to claim 1, further comprising a rear cross connector and wherein a first single strap comprises the left shoulder strap portion and the right torso strap portion and a second single strap comprises the right shoulder strap portion and the left torso strap portion, and wherein the right shoulder strap portion and the left torso strap portion comprise a second single strap, and the first single strap extends through a space between the rear cross guide and the section of the right torso strap portion that is between the first rigid connector member and the second rigid connector member.
- 18. A strap-type drum harness for wearing to support a drum during playing of the drum, the strap-type drum harness comprising: an upper strap arrangement; a waist-encircling strap portion; an interconnecting strap portion extending between a top end and a bottom end; wherein the top end of the interconnecting strap portion is securely connected to the upper strap arrangement the bottom end of the interconnecting strap portion is securely connected to the waist-encircling strap portion; and, a drum connector secured to one of the components of the drum harness; wherein, in use, the upper strap arrangement is supported by the shoulders of a wearer and generally surrounds a portion of the torso of the wearer, the waist-encircling strap portion encircles the waist area of the wearer, and the interconnecting strap portion is disposed at the front of a wearer; and, wherein, in use, a drum is suspended from the drum connector and the strap type drum harness keeps the drum comfortably in place.
- 19. A strap-type drum harness for wearing to support a drum during playing of the drum, the strap-type drum harness comprising: a left shoulder strap portion extending between a front end and a back end; a right shoulder strap portion extending between a front end and a back end; a left torso strap portion extending between a front end and a back end; a right torso strap portion extending between a front end and a back end; a waist-encircling strap portion extending between first end and a second end; a drum connector secured to one of the components of the drum harness; wherein, in use, the left shoulder strap portion is disposed over the left shoulder of a wearer, the right shoulder strap portion is disposed over the right shoulder of a wearer, the left torso strap portion is disposed around the left side of the torso of a wearer, the right torso strap portion is disposed over the right shoulder of a wearer, and the waist-encircling strap portion encircles the waist area of the wearer; and, wherein the first end and the second end of the waist-encircling strap portion are securely interconnected to the front ends of the left shoulder strap portion, the right shoulder strap portion, the left torso strap portion, and the right torso strap portion, to form a loop for fitment around the waist of a wearer; and, wherein, in use, a drum is suspended from the drum connector and the strap type drum harness keeps the drum comfortably in place.
- 20. A strap-type drum harness for wearing to support a drum during playing of the drum, the strap-type drum harness comprising: a first annular strap section that forms a first loop; a second annual strap section that forms a second loop; wherein the first annular strap section and the second annular strap section are interconnected each with the other at a front criss-cross point and are interconnected each with the other at a rear criss-cross point; a waist-encircling strap portion interconnected to the first annular strap section and the second annual strap section at the front criss-cross point; a drum connector secured to one of the components of the drum harness; wherein, in use, the first annular strap section is disposed around the left shoulder and the right side of the torso of a wearer, the second annular strap section is disposed around the right shoulder and the left side of the torso of a wearer, the waist-encircling strap portion encircles the waist area of the wearer; and, wherein, in use, a drum is suspended from the drum connector and the strap type drum harness keeps the drum comfortably in place.
