Abstract
A vehicle-mounted automatic dispenser comprises a shelving system fitted into a vehicle, with a picking system. Age verification and a user authentication system is used to fulfil instant on-demand delivery orders of merchandise to the customer’s address, where the customer is authenticated and age verified using identity documents and face matching, and user authentication is performed using a one-time password and vehicle mounted numerical pin-pad. The inventory of merchandise is prefilled on the stacking shelf every day and replenished whenever needed. After successful age verification and user authentication the ordered products are dispensed automatically.
Description
Vehicle Mounted Automatic Dispenser with Age Verification and User Authentication.
This invention is concerned with the automatic vehicle-mounted dispenser with age verification system.
On-demand, instant delivery of merchandise involves a warehouse or a store which lists its inventory of items for sale in their or aggregator's website or mobile application, with which customers order the items from the store's listing to be delivered to their address. Once an order is placed, the store packs the ordered items and a delivery driver delivers the order to the customer's mentioned address. If multiple orders are received by a store, the delivery driver returns to the store or the warehouse to pick up the next order after each delivery. If the order involves any age-restricted products, the delivery person must verify the age of the recipient. This process is usually done by visually checking the appearance of the recipient to guess their age or by verifying their age from identification documents like passports, driver's licenses, etc if they look very young.
However, this existing method of returning to store premises to collect each order delays delivery and needs at least two personnel to fulfil the orders. Furthermore, manually verifying the recipient's age through their appearance check may lead to human error, but verifying the customer's identification document by a delivery driver will expose sensitive personal information.
To overcome the above-mentioned issues, this invention uses an automatic dispenser mounted on a delivery vehicle, which is prefilled with the inventory to dispense the ordered items in its collection tray to be collected by the customer, once the vehicle reaches the delivery destination and the customer completes authorisation and/or age verification (if needed) process. This process can be fully automated if the invention is mounted on an autonomous vehicle.
The invention will now be described with reference to the attached flow chart and drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a flow chart explaining the order flow and the functions of the user application, server, delivery driver or autonomous vehicle and dispenser.
Figure 2 shows the near-side view of a sample delivery vehicle. And a magnified inset (bottom) shows the face scanning camera sensor (1), and a magnified inset (middle) shows the camera sensor (2) for identification document scanning, shelf (3) for placing the document for scanning, numerical pin pad (4) for entering One Time Password and the collection tray (5) for collecting the dispensed items.
Figure 3 shows a rear view of the delivery vehicle with loading doors opened and a plane A-A' slicing between the picking mechanism and stacking shelf with arrows representing the direction of the view.
Figure 4 shows the cross-section section of plane A-A' from the nearside of the delivery vehicle as represented by the arrows in Figure 3, exposing the stacking shelves.
Figure 5 shows the rear view of the delivery vehicle with loading doors opened and plane B-B' slicing between the picking mechanism and stacking shelf with arrows representing the direction of the view is shown.
Figure 6 shows the cross-section of plane B-B' from the nearside of the delivery vehicle as represented by the arrows in Figure 5, exposing the picking mechanism and a magnified inset showing the item picker and the collection tray from inside of the vehicle.
Figure 7 shows the front view of the dispenser unit. Figure 8 shows the isometric view of the dispenser unit. Figure 9 shows the left view of the dispenser unit. Figure 10 shows the right view of the dispenser unit.
Figure 11 shows the isometric view of the dispenser unit, a magnified inset of the vertical movement mechanism (right), a magnified inset of the horizontal movement mechanism and the picker mechanism (bottom).
In Figure 1, the flow chart explains the whole process flow starting from the launch of the user application to order delivery. Once the user application is launched by the customer, it sends approximate geographical coordinates to the server to identify the availability of service in their area and the branch servicing that area if service is available. The server checks the above condition and responds to the application with the area branch's inventory. Then the application displays the inventory of items available for sale. The customer adds items to the cart, enters a delivery address, contact phone number and proceeds to checkout. The user application sends details (Items added to the cart, Delivery address and Phone number) of the order to the server. The server sends the address and contact number of the customer to the delivery driver and sends items added to the cart to the vehicle-mounted dispenser. Once the payment is completed, the server sends a One Time Password to the customer through text message. Then dispatches the delivery driver or autonomous vehicle to the delivery destination. After reaching the destination the customer is notified by the delivery driver and the user application that the delivery vehicle has arrived. Then the customer is prompted to enter the One Time Password by the screen (2). Customers can enter the One Time Password using the numerical pin pad (4). If the order contains any age-restricted items, the customer is asked to place his identification document on the ID scanner shelf (3), which is scanned by the camera (1) above the shelf, and then the customer's face is scanned using a sensor (6). The identification document is compared with the customer's face to authorise delivery. Once both checks are passed the ordered items are dispensed in the collection tray (5). In cases of failed payment or failed One Time Password and/or ID checks, the order is cancelled.
The stacking shelf (Figure 7) contains an array of bins inclined (7) to the near side of the delivery vehicle, so that the products gravitationally slide to the near-side end of the shelf, ready to be picked through the half-open mouth (8) of the bin (Figure 9). The stacking shelf is filled with the inventories through the rear fully opened mouth (9) of the bins at the off-side of the vehicle (Figure 10). Each bin is designated to a particular product and products are assigned a unique number called Stock Keeping Unit (SKU). The server communicates this SKU number to the delivery vehicle for picking up the products at the time of delivery. Before the start of a delivery shift, the shelves are filled with set number of respective products. And the inventory is maintained by deducting the stock with each sale.
The picking mechanism (Figure 11) consists of an item picker, horizontal movement mechanism, vertical movement mechanism and an outer frame holding the above. The outer frame has screw rods (10) at both sides, in which the vertical movement mechanism moves using a drive & motor (11) at both ends. The vertical movement mechanism moves a horizontal bar in upward and downward direction. The horizontal movement mechanism is mounted on the guide duct (15) running through the length of the horizontal bar. The horizontal movement mechanism has a motorized wheel (14) in the guide duct which moves it along the length of the horizontal bar it both sides facilitating the horizontal motion of the item picker. Item picker has a gripper (12) that grips and releases the products using a lead screw and motor drive (13).
The Vehicle mounted automatic dispenser can be modular, the number of bins can be reduced or increased as per the requirement or size of the vehicle it is mounted on.
