The hinged lid 12 is rotatable about a first hinge axis 16 which extends along a line of juncture 17 where the top wall 9 and rear wall 15 meet. It is to be appreciated that the first hinge axis 16 may be spaced from the line ofjuncture 17 and extend along the rear wall 15. Alternatively, the first hinge axis 16 may extend along, or be spaced from, a line ofjuncture 18 where the front wall 6 and top wall 9 meet. In other words, the hinged lid 12 may open in a direction towards or away from the front of the package 1. -6 -
Additionally, the package 1 comprises a lid 13 attached to the body 2 that extends over the second opening when the second compartment 4 is in a closed position. The body 2 and each lid 12, 13 are configured such that each lid 12, 13 is openable between open and closed positions irrespective of the position of the other lid 12, 13. In other words, the first and second compartments 3,4 may be opened individually or simultaneously.
The package 1 comprises a line of weakening 14 that defines the lid 13 of the second compartment 4 and is configured to break to facilitate opening of the second compartment 4. The line of weakening 14 extends along the front wall 6 and side walls to 7, 8 of the package 1. Alternatively, the line of weakening 14 extends along the rear wall and the side walls 7, 8 of the package 1. In use, a consumer would break the line of weakening 14 to access the second compartment 4.
Figure 2 illustrates another package 1 according to an embodiment of the invention. In this embodiment, the lid 13 of the second compartment 4 is a hinged lid. The hinged lid 13 is rotatable about a second hinge axis 19, parallel to the first hinge axis 16 of the hinged lid 12. The second hinge axis 19 extends along a line ofjuncture 20 where the bottom wall 5 and rear wall 15 meet. Alternatively, the second hinge axis 19 may be spaced from the line ofjuncture 20 and extend along the rear wall 15. Furthermore, the second hinge axis 19 may extend along, or be spaced from, a line of juncture 21 where the bottom wall 5 and front wall 6 meet. In other words, the hinged lid 13 may open in a direction towards or away from the front of the package 1. The body 2 and each hinged lid 12, 13 are configured such that each hinged lid 12, 13 is pivotable between open and closed positions irrespective of the position of the other hinged lid 12, 13. The package of Figure 2 is essentially a "double" hinged-lid container as it has an opening with a hinged-lid closure at each end, each opening providing access to a separate compartment within the package.
As seen in Figure 2, the first and second hinge axes 16, 19 arc parallel to one another and extend along the lines of juncture 17, 20. Therefore, the hinged lids 12, 13 open in the same direction. It is to be appreciated that the first hinge axis 16 may extend along the line ofjuncture 18 or the second hinge axis 19 may extend along the line of juncture 21.
