Abstract
261,425. M³hlig-Union Glass-Works Co., Ltd. Nov. 16,1925, [Convention date]. Compound sheets.-Relates to the production of compound plates of glass and celluloid by treating one or more sheets of celluloid with a solvent such as alcohol, acetone, or amyl acetate, and uniting them with glass plates by pressure. According to the invention, before treatment with the solvent, both sides of the celluloid are prepared, by coating or rubbing, with a substance which penetrates only slowly or sparingly into the celluloid and prevents excessive absorption of the solvent. Substances suitable for this purpose are esters obtained from glycerine and the lower fatty acids, (e.g. triacetin), esters obtained from the higher fatty acids and the lower alcohols, (e.g. methyl or ethyl oleate), and the higher alcohols used alone. The esters used need not be chemically pure. The glass plates or celluloid sheets may be coloured or patterned.
