Measuring.-An attachment for increasing the measuring capacity of cloth-measuring machines of the kind in which the cloth, ribbon, &c. passes between presser and measuring rollers. the measuring-roller operating an indicator and means being provided for returning the indicator t) zero position, comprises a second indicator operated by the zeroizing-mechanism and showing how many times the zeroizing-mechanism is operated. The attachment is for use on machines for measuring normally up to, say, twelve yards, the measuring-roller then being locked to prevent further rotation and damage to the computings-charts. The measuring-roller 5, Fig. 3, en-operating with the presser roller 6 is connected by gearing to the computing-charts and indicator, the parts being returned to zero position by pressing a button 52.. The capacity-increasing attachment which is held by clips 60 and a set screw 73, Fig. 2, to the measuring-machine is provided with a button 89 which when operated is adapted to effect the zeroizing of the computing-charts and indicator. The button 89 carries a spring pawl 93 adapted to engage a ratchet-wheel 80 on a sleeve carrying the second indicator drum 79 and provided with a second ratchet-wheel engaged by a dog under control of a hand-lever 98 normally held in a raised position by a spring. In use, when a length of material equal to the normal capacity of the measuring-machine has passed between the rollers, stop-mechanism prevents their further rotation. The button 89 is then depressed to operate the second indicator drum 79 causing it to register twelve yards, and to operate the zeroizing-button 52. A further length of twelve yards may then be passed through the machine. At the termination of the measurement, the lever 98 is depressed and releases the second ratchet-wheel, thereby allowing the second indicator 79 to return to zero, and, at the same time, depressing the usual lever 55 for separating the presser and measuring rollers, for applying a brake to the measuring-drum, for operating the edge-nicking cutters, and for zeroizing the computing-charts and indicator of the measuring-machine.
